Scene Shop Visit – March 18
Guild members are invited to view the set and scenery under construction for upcoming productions. The Shaw’s design and construction heads, often with the play’s director, discuss the set planning and construction process. This discussion illustrates the challenges faced in addressing often-conflicting dramatic and practical issues.
Spring Preview Luncheon – April 15
Members are invited to a fantastic lunch prepared by the Green Room at the Shaw Festival. After lunch a senior Shaw staff member will be giving a presentation of the sets and costume designs for the season’s upcoming productions.
Wandelprobe for Brigadoon – April 26
The Wandelprobe is one of the most exciting rehearsals for any musical production. It is, as Glynis Leyshon puts it, the “maestro’s rehearsal”. This is the first time the Ensemble will be onstage, and the orchestra will be in the pit. Essentially, it is the first time the full implication of the music of the production will be experienced by the cast and the creative team . . . and you!
Garden Tour – June 8
This annual fundraising garden tour showcases magnificent secret gardens in lovely old town Niagara-on-the-Lake. Meander through eight gardens and discover many varieties of lush plants, beautiful trees, and stunning perennials nestled around historic homes. For more information, see the Garden Tour page.
Summer Celebration – July 15
Join your fellow Guild members for fun, food and refreshments on a summer evening on the Members’ Terrace. Watch for ticket information and be sure to register early as space is limited.
Cricket Match: Shaw vs Stratford – August (date to be confirmed)
Each year, the Shaw Festival and Stratford Festival challenge each other to a cricket match – a true test of which festival is best! Guild members are encouraged to come and cheer on our wonderful team. In 2019, the match will be held in Stratford.
Prop and Warehouse Tour – September 25
One way to experience the magic of theatre is to join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the amazing collection of fantastic props, period pieces and costumes (not to mention the SHOES!) that go into making a Shaw production so authentic. Guild Members will get a chance to have a guided tour of the Shaw’s Prop and Wardrobe warehouse in St. Davids.
Members’ Day – November 5
Shaw Festival senior management provide a sneak preview of the next season’s playbill.
Annual General Meeting – November 24
The Shaw Guild executive committee will take you through the year in the Shaw Guild and discuss what achievements have been made and what changes we may see in 2020.
